Students and teachers of ethnicity are very rare at Northland Pines High School

The percentage of students that are economically disadvantaged in slowly rising reaching its 10 year peak in

The inequity that becomes most apparent at Northland Pines High School is that males statistically are achieving at lower rates academically and having more behavioral issues than females.

169 males 231 females (past 10 years) Top 10% of Students 31% males 69% females

Males $38, Females $153, Males $45, Females $141, Although the case can be made that more females apply for scholarships than males this number is still staggering.

AP Classes Psychology, English Literature & Language Composition 55 students out of 504 total (11%) 15 males (27% of enrolled) 40 females (73% of enrolled)

Upper Level Math Classes Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Probability & Statistics, Trigonometry 91 students out of 504 total (18%) 42 males (46% of enrolled) 49 females (54% of enrolled) Upper Level Language Arts Classes AP English Literature & Language Composition, Advanced Reading 31 students out of 504 total (6%) 11 males (35% of enrolled) 20 females (65% of enrolled)

Upper Level Science Classes Astronomy, Anatomy, Chemistry, Physics 135 students out of 504 total (27%) 70 males (52% of enrolled) 65 females (48% of enrolled) This is the only department where the number of males outnumbers females in upper level classes.

What can we conclude? Dropout rates, suspensions, and weapon and/or drug related incidents are all more common amongst male students. Males have more behavioral problems than females at Northland Pines. Males are achieving lower academically than females in numerous areas.

Possibly develop male only classes particularly in reading Males only at risk program Try to improve male participation in tutoring programs, Honors Society, and upper level classes Look at instructional strategies that may help male students specifically
