Objectives of the course “ to introduce key concepts and practices of strategic environmental assessment (SEA), and facilitate an understanding of envl. integration in strategic planning and decision making.” Focus: “The course is concerned with the general issue of integrating env. sustainability considerations in strategic planning and decision- making, with a particular focus on the role of institutions. “

Learning Outcomes You should be able to: 1. Define contexts of decision making processes; 2. Define strategic actions (policies, plans, programs) 3. Identify, describe relationships between different PPPs 4. Explain why env. considerations have not been appropriately integrated in strategic planning, decision- making and implementation 5. Explain why and how env. information needs to be adapted depending on the context; adapted depending on the context; 6. Identify key factors which have to be considered in SEA; 7. Present working material, findings, conclusions - orally, in written presentations etc.

Examination/grading  Based on each student’s individual performance in tasks and assignments  Pass: at least 50% of total points (100)  Pass w Distinction: at least 75%  Fail: Less than 50%  Pass required in all course components;  Weigthing of components: Written exam (70%); Lit. seminar (30%)
