Monovalent Compounds Definiation : Metal with a single ionic charge.

Examples: - sodium chloride (NaCl) -magnesium oxide (MgO) -calcium oxide (CaO)

Multivalent Compounds Definiation: Metal with more than one possible ionic charge

Example: -Iron(II)chloride (FeCl2) -Iron(III)oxide (Fe2O3) -copper(I)oxide (Cu2O)

Polyatomic Compounds Definition: - Groups of atoms covalently bonded with a charge -Ions comprised of more than one atom -Atoms share electrons

Examples: -calcium sulphate (CaSO4) -sodium hydroxide (NaOH) -potassium nitrate (KNO3)

Hydrates Definition: A solid compound that is surrounded by water molecules

Example: - copper sulphate pentahydrate (CuSO4 * 5H2O) - sodium sulphate decahydrate (Na2SO4 * 10H2O) - alummium oxide trihydrate (Al2O3 * 3H2O)

Binary Compounds Definition: A compund made of two different types of atoms.

Example: - dinitrogen tetraoxide (N2O4) - nitrogen monoxide (NO) - dihydrogen dioxide (H2O2)
