Provide a means for continued FMCSA involvement in state activities Provide a forum for technical/knowledge exchanges that will assist states to with CVISN compliance and the challenges beyond Make available the assistance of non-federal experts that can offer lessons learned on a first hand basis Political Issues (border crossing, etc.) Training, software development and license sharing, site visits Commercial Vehicle Oriented Assistance:

Sample Success Stories Success Stories are summaries of requests that have accomplished set goals and enabled the requesting agency to move closer to a successful deployment or improve an existing system. The summaries are complied quarterly and used to market the Program and its abilities. All involved parties are contacted prior to publication to grant permission for the use of their name as well as that of their agency.

Oklahoma Tax Commission Site-Visit Challenge : Discuss and understand Maryland’s International Registration Program (IRP) and determine if Oklahoma can utilize/adopt the system as a starting point for the IRP development work on the electronic credentialing portion of the CVISN project. Peers: ▶ Penny Williams, Oklahoma Tax Commission ▶ Gene Gilstrap, Oklahoma Tax Commission ▶ Rod Stephens, Oklahoma Tax Commission ▶ Keith Gage, Oklahoma Tax Commission Outcome: The Oklahoma Tax Commission group visited the State of Maryland and met with various representatives that provided detailed information and helped the visitors to achieve their goals. The initial decision was that Oklahoma plans to use at least the databases in Maryland’s system, with future consideration to adopt the entire system. The two states will most likely work together in the future on this project task and its legislative matters.

Louisiana and Mississippi DOT’s CVISN Programs Challenge : Apply lessons learned in deploying CVISN technologies state- wide and relate CVISN Architecture functions and standards. Peers: ▶ Tim Erickson (Washington State DOT) ▶ Doug Deckert (Washington State DOT) -Overview of Washington State’s CVISN Program. -Discussed functionality and adaptability of the CVISN Architecture. -Presented data transfer, storage and screening methods. -Described adaptability, technical and management challenges. -Identified possible funding opportunities. Outcome: Members of the Louisiana and Mississippi CVISN teams and law enforcement personnel will use elements of Washington State’s experience to draft state- wide CVISN deployment plans. The peers will assist the requestors with future CVISN efforts.

Challenge : Share lessons learned during a CVISN Training and Scope Workshop in an effort to assist the state with preparing their own CVISN design plans. Peers: ▶ Janie Light, Texas DOT -Presented an Overview of Texas’ CVISN Experience. -Discussed integration, policies, cost-benefit analysis, and status of CVIEW. Outcome: The state of AL is more prepared to proceed with design plans as a result of the Peer information which included: -Recommendations to enhance safety screening criteria, including safety assurance and safety information exchange. -Development of operational scenarios for Safety, Information Sharing, Credential Administration, and Electronic Screening. -Description of Texas’ Inspection Stations -Description of Texas’ version of CVIEW and the cost to develop the system -Process to develop the Texas CVISN Alabama CVISN Training
