REPORT CARD No independent hospital inspections to provide public assurance Inquiry into deaths at Vale of Leven hospital announced High numbers of complaints about hospital cleanliness, hand hygiene and staff dress code Patients/public feel hospitals are not always clean Patient/public confidence about their hospital not always good “Ensuring your Hospital is Safe and Clean”

REPORT CARD – 2013 A minimum of 30 inspections to hospitals across Scotland with 94% unannounced Cleaner wards and departments Cleaner patient equipment Fewer maintenance, repairs and refurbishment issues Better access to training and education Infection control manual in every ward Cleanliness champions everywhere Great team working with nurses, domestics and estates Infection control everyone’s responsibility “Ensuring your Hospital is Safe and Clean”

WHAT PATIENTS AND THE PUBLIC TELL ME 87% of patients say their wards are “always clean”. 10% of patients say their wards are “mostly clean”. 70% of patients say staff always wash their hands. 20% of patients say staff usually wash their hands. However, patients still don’t always feel they can challenge poor practices. “Ensuring your Hospital is Safe and Clean”
