Unit 1 Drawing and Painting

Day 1  Students will…  Understand what is expected of them in the syllabus  Signed syllabus due Friday  Students will understand visual note taking    Produce visual notes

Class work Day 1  In your sketchbook or on drawing paper students will make visual notes for he following terms  Value  Value scale  Value of a cone, cube, sphere  High light  Shade  Chiaroscuro  Due tomorrow if not done 10 pts

Day 1 Homework  Signed Syllabus by Friday  Bring sketchbook due Friday  Black charcoals and white charcoal pencil due Friday  Bring 3 objects that mean something to you (school appropriate) due tomorrow  Finish visual notes by tomorrow 10 points

Day 2-3  Students will produce a still life drawing of a few objects from home  Students will learn about different art materials

Take visual Notes on the following!

Powder Charcoal  This is used to lay a ground.  Take a teaspoon of powder charcoal and sprinkle on your paper  With a paper towel rub the powder charcoal around your paper

Vine Charcoal  This used to sketch out the subject.  You can ease vine with your finger

Compressed Charcoal  This is used to put values in your drawing.  We always lay value before we start o draw details

White charcoal  Used to add highlights  Ease the other charcoal before you add the white. This keeps it from becoming muddy

Charcoal pencils  We use these to draw details

Day 4  Students will get their sketchbook assignment.  Students will start their self-portrait

Self-Portrait Day 4- Day 11  Using the different charcoals we have in our classroom and a mirror students will make a self-portrait  Due August 17

Sketchbook Assignment 1 Day 4  In your sketchbook draw 3 different positions of hands in 3 different positions  Each hand should be on a different sheet of paper  Make sure the hands have a lot of value added to them  Due Aug 10  Worth 20 points

Sketchbook Assignment 2 Aug 10 Day  Students using chalk pastel should draw a piece of clothe in their sketchbook  Due August 17  Worth 20 points
