Ahaz continues his wickedness 2K 16:10-18; 2Chr 28:22-25 Asking Tiglath-Pileser for help against Syria and Israel was not pleasing to God Ahaz was pleased that he made the attack on Damascus and he goes there to meet him The relationship between Ahaz and Tiglath-Pileser did not help Ahaz While in Damascus, Ahaz offered sacrifice to the gods of the Syrians

Ahaz continues his wickedness 2K 16:10-18; 2Chr 28:22-25 Ahaz said, “Since the gods of the king of Syria helped defeat me, I will offer sacrifice to them and perhaps they will help me.” This proved to be another step downward Ahaz liked the looks of the altar Sent a pattern to Urijah the priest in Jerusalem Urijah had one made and it was ready when Ahaz returned He had the brazen alter moved. He had it saved so he could inquire of God (when needed)

Ahaz continues his wickedness 2K 16:10-18; 2Chr 28:22-25 Ahaz offers sacrifices to the gods of Damascus Ahaz set aside the worship to Jehovah Articles of temple dismantled He finally shut the door of the house of Jehovah This was the 12th year of Ahaz

12 th year of Ahaz king of Judah began Hoshea to reign in Israel Death of Ahaz 2 K 16:19-20; 2 Chr 28:26 Three years into the reign of Hoshea, Ahaz died and was buried in Jerusalem but not with other kings Hezekiah begins 2 K 18:1-20:21; 2 Chr 28:27-32:33 Hoshea reigns 2 K 15:30; 17:1-18:12 Hoshea made a conspiracy against Pekah and slew him Hoshea reigned 9 yrs He was evil but not as bad as the kings before him More about Hoshea in next lesson

2 Chr 29:6 For our fathers have trespassed, and done that which was evil in the eyes of the LORD our God, and have forsaken him, and have turned away their faces from the habitation of the LORD, and turned their backs.  7Also they have shut up the doors of the porch, and put out the lamps, and have not burned incense nor offered burnt offerings in the holy place unto the God of Israel.

Cleansing the Temple 2 Chr 29:3 They shut the doors of the temple and put out the lamps The wrath of Jehovah has fallen on Judah This is why our fathers fell by the sword This is why our sons and daughters and wives are in captivity 2 K 29:9 I will make a covenant with the Lord our God so he will turn his wrath from us v 10 Do not neglect to stand before Him & serve Him v 11

Cleansing the Temple 2 Chr 29:3 We are wicked so we are being punished We must turn back to Jehovah The covenant had not been renewed since the days of Jehoiada when Joash was King 2 K 11:17-20 The Levites went to work purifying the temple Unclean things brought out They were dumped in the Kidron Valley v16

Preparation for Passover feast 2 Chr 30:1-12 Passover was to be celebrated on the first month of each year There had not been enough priest consecrated neither had the people assembled Decision was made to celebrate it the 2nd month Nu 9:10 Invitations were sent throughout Israel from Dan to Beersheba asking all Israel to share in the Passover

Preparation for Passover feast 2 Chr 30:1-12 The decree went out: People of Israel turn to the Lord If you do He will turn to you v 6 Do not be like your fathers who were unfaithful v 7 Come to the sanctuary and serve the Lord v 8 Some ridiculed the decree and others humbled themselves and went to worship in Jerusalem v10
