ORIENTATION

Congratulations on taking the first step in your transition from university to the Australian professional workforce. Your Journey Begins……

QIBA Professional Year Program has been designed to ensure you are work ready for the Australian professional workforce on completion of the course. Our experienced staff and teachers look forward to and are committed to supporting you on your journey of self growth. You will receive practical hands on learning with an emphasis on workplace preparation: culture, ethics, career planning (including CV writing and interview skills, workplace information, professional writing and workplace health and safety.

o Work within Australian legislative requirements o Work safely and participate in OHSE processes o Work effectively within the organisations requirements o Communicate effectively in the workplace o Provide effective service to internal and external clients o Participate successfully in a team environment o Apply skills and knowledge to professional work situations o Implement strategies to manage personal career development

100% attendance – this is a professional bodies and DIBP requirement Any unit missed must be attended in another class. Alternate class dates can be found on the student portal of QIBA website Students are expected to treat the program as a workplace, therefore punctuality and participation are mandatory Successful completion of all individual and group assessments Successful completion and performance in an internship placement of no less than 264 hours over a minimum of 10 weeks.

In order to graduate you must successfully complete the following assessment task. 1. Working with diversity presentation 2. Workplace Health and Safety Case Study 3. Reporting to Managers Group Presentation 4. CV and Cover Letter 5. Interview Assessment 6. Team Project 7. Workplace communication role play 8. Business meeting role play 9. Networking Assessment 10. Oral Presentation 11. Internship Performance and Evaluation

To further enhance your professional skills you are required to complete a workplace internship consisting of 264 voluntary hours to be completed in no less than 10 weeks. QIBA has an extensive client base of host employers Australia wide, and you will be invited to interview for your internship. Alternatively, you are welcome to source your own internship and on completion you will receive a $500 rebate. Please refer to the attachment “Internship – Frequently Asked Questions” or contact our Internship Coordinator, Ms Jo Rackham on

On successful completion of the 45 week Professional Year course and your internship you will receive your Graduation Certificate and can apply to DIBP for 5 points toward your permanent residency. Please note that under no circumstances are you able to graduate earlier than the date specified on your Offer Letter. This is a stipulation of the professional bodies and DIBP.
