Official name: the United States the United States of America of America ( the USA) ( the USA)

Status. A federal republic, a union of 50 states

Area. 3,623,420 sq mi. (9,373,000sq.km)

Capital. Washington,D. C.

Location. The United States stretches across North America from the Atlantic Ocean in the east to the Pasific Ocean in the west from Canada in the north to Mexico,the Gulf of Mexico and the Gulf of California in the south.

Two states, Alaska and Hawaii are not connected to the other states. Many rivers cross the United States: Mississippi, Missouri, Rio Grande,Jukon, Arkansas, Colorado, Columbia and others.

There are five great lakes in the nortern part of the USA. They are: lake Huron, lake Michigan, lake Ontario, lake Superior, lake Erie. All they are connected by channels

The Rocky Mountains(the Rockies) in the west and the Appalachians in the east are runnig from north to south.

The largest cities are Washington D. C., New York,Los Angeles,Chicago,Philadephia, San Francisco,Detroit,Boston and others.
