As a homeschooling parent, you may find it difficult to recall certain material when teaching your child, but that is no problem; technology is here to help you. YouTube offers many educational resources from elementary to college level material. Incorporating this audiovisual media allows for material to be reinforced into students minds. To aid you in your discovery of all the resources in YouTube, I will explain how to register to be a free member of the site, all of YouTube’s features, its influence on education, and mention other sites that see the impact of audiovisual media in education.
Direct yourself to www.YouTube.com Click on the “Create Account” tab First, type in www.youtube.com into your internet address page which will you direct you to the desired page. From here, select “create account” that will prompt another page to open to get you started with the process of interacting will all the features YouTube has to offer. This will be the first step to creating your page This will be the first step to creating your page. Input all of your information, click the box stating that you agree with Google policy, and finally click next step.
Step 2 simply asks if you would like to add a profile picture, but let’s that overlook that option for now. Click on next step and you’ll get a screen welcoming you to YouTube. Now you’re set to explore the world of YouTube.
In your address bar, type in www. youtube In your address bar, type in www.youtube.com/education and you’ll be directed to a section completely oriented around education. By clicking on the learn more tab, you’ll get an explanation of how this channel will aid you in your child’s education.
As stated by YouTube, this channel will provide you with so many educational opportunities with the ease of simply clicking a button.
You may ask yourself if this information is credible and I’m sure all the organizations would tell you yes. Whether educational institutions or knowledge based companies, these are a few examples of organizations who have posted educational information on YouTube to contribute to learning. There are many more channels available that have the same goal in mind of advocating education on YouTube.
Click on the “All Categories” tab to focus your attention on either primary and secondary education, university learning, or lifelong learning. Let’s click on the “University” link which will direct us to a new page based solely on college level material. By again clicking on the “All Categories” tab now located next to the “University” tab, you can view all the subjects available to you that have been provided by a variety of institutions.
Let’s try navigating our way through all these resources and finding a video on YouTube. Let’s start off by selecting the primary and secondary education tab and then selecting mathematics link from the all categories tab.

If I found the video useful and was curious as to what other videos were posted by this user, I would click on the subscribe tab. The name of this particular YouTube channel is “MathTV”. By subscribing, I would get any updates made by the channel and access to all of the videos available on their channel. Other options available underneath the video under the tab “Add to”. By clicking on this tab, I can put the video as something to watch later or if I found it very useful, I could add it to my favorites making it available to me at all times without going through the trouble of finding it again.
By going back to YouTube’s home page, you’ll see that the video was added to your favorites, watch later, and history tabs. In the center of the screen are other math videos posted by this particular which you can browse by either visiting their main channel or simply scrolling up and down your home page.

By exploring this page, you’ll be able to find all sorts of resources that will aid in your child’s and even your education! Aside from this channel dedicated to YouTube, you can find many more resources by utilizing the search bar at the top of the screen and typing in whatever you’re looking for. Your searches can include videos of places around the world, variety of music, and other educational resources that might not be included under YouTube’s direct educational channel. By spending some time on YouTube and exploring everything it has to offer will not only build your skills on using this website, but will also let you find information relative to your child’s education.
Don’t stop there though, there are more educational, media sites available online. Learn360, Teacher Tube, and School Tube are other means of access to educational material and may contain information that isn’t available on YouTube.
Take the time to incorporate technology into your lesson plan and you’ll see that there are many resources available to the development and growth on one’s knowledge.
