LYMPHATIC SYSTEM Session 38

OBJECTIVES Describe the mechanism of how lymph and blood exchange components at capillary beds Describe how lymph flows through lymphatic ducts and vessels Identify the areas of the body with lymph nodes Discuss the structure and function of lymph nodes Analyze the relationship between the immune system and circulatory system

GROUP RESEARCH

In your small group, pick one of the following questions to answer. Using the internet, formulate a meaningful answer. Post your answer on your wiki project site. (new page, title “lymph”) Meet with a group that chose a different question and share your answers.  What is the relationship between breast cancer removal surgery (lumpectomy or mastectomy_) and lymph nodes?  What causes lymphedema and what are common treatments?  What causes a swollen lymph node?  What is the thoracic duct and what role does it play in the function of the entire lymphatic system?
