Dublin February 2008 Trafficking for forced labour in other industries than the sex industry. Polish perspective Source countries for forced labour victims in Poland

sources of information -Study visits in Ukraine and Moldova (also planned in Romania) -Press releases analysis -Cooperation with La Strada, NGO aimed at combating THB -Analysis of criminal cases (case files)- just started -Consultations with experts

Main sending countries of forced labour victims -Moldova -Romania ? -Ukraine -Vietnam

Moldovan victims of forced labour in Poland -especially women with children (their husbands/partners are prevented from accompanying the victim by the offenders) -in destination country separated from their children or one child – threatened with the arguments related to child’s safety -forced to begging, deprived of the whole „earnings”, often beaten -People of Romanian origin seem to take part in recruitment and exploitation in destination countries

Ukrainian victims of forced labour in Poland -usually exploited in agriculture or small factories -seem to accept the hard working conditions just to earn money -many victims come from Western Ukraine (closest to Poland) -victims among both man and woman (cases of couples employed on the farms and forced)

Vietnamese victims of forced labour in Poland - exploited in trade sector (flea market, market stalls) and asian bars - work to pay debts - usually smuggled to Poland (due to their responses ) -not conscious of being a victim (accept hard working conditions, appreciate the possibility to work, even if their freedom is reduced ?)
