17/6/2007 AWO Digital Content AWO (Arab Women org.), established in 2003, is an IGO specialized agency of the league of Arab States. AWO was a member of the Arab Preparation team for the WSIS Tunis phase2005. Our aim in participation was to establish projects that focuses on empowering Arab women with ICT and in bridging gender digital divide.

17/6/2007 AWO Digital Content AWO has proposed two main projects during the WSIS. (shown below). In addition to these two projects, AWO have established three more projects that aimed at the implementation of the WSIS plan of Action, and of great strategic importance to the.

17/6/2007 AWO Digital Content Let me now briefly outline the main projects and their contribution to the WSIS outcomes: Geographical Information database (GIS) Awareness & Educational Modules Arab Women Electronic Library Arab Women Directory Immigrant Arab women network

17/6/2007 AWO Digital Content Geographical Information database (GIS): It is a database project, initiated to reflect the Social, Political & Economic status of Arab women. The indicators adopted have been set by member states experts to comply with the MDGs cultural and ethical values of the region. The GIS techniques used supports decision-making as shown.as shown

17/6/2007 AWO Digital Content Awareness & Educational Modules: This is a E-Learning interactive and dynamic Web-based project. It aims at enhancing capacities and raising awareness of Arab women. This has been implemented through seven modules: 1.OsteoposisOsteoposis 2.Breast Cancer 3.Child dental Care 4.Preschool children 5.Cardiology 6.Obesity 7.Child Psychology The first two modules have been completed as shown. The rest will be competed and available on the internet by August2007.

17/6/2007 AWO Digital Content Arab Women Electronic Library It is a web-based project E-Library, which contains titles, articles, book, periodical concerning Arab women topics. It is currently contains more than 2000 titles and its web site is fully operational:

17/6/2007 AWO Digital Content Arab Women Directory: It is a database directory that contains information about and for Arab women in specific topics such as (Org., experts, thesis, agreements..etc). Data in this directory are updated regularly and will be available on AWO web site before the end of this year

17/6/2007 AWO Digital Contents Immigrant Arab women network: The idea of this network finds its logic in the fact that Arabs abroad constitute an enormous credit of energies and talents. Arabs abroad can and should be part of their countries' efforts and plans of development and progress. Hence, the first mission this network is to know and make these energies and talents known. Recognizing these facts, AWO decided to fund this project to bridge the gap between Arabs abroad and their home countries. AWO understands that different countries exert concentrated efforts to help their immigrants abroad and to make good use of the distinct among them. Arab countries are not and should not be an exception in this regard. This network is a first step toward: 1- Answering the who, what and where questions about Arabs abroad. 2- Helping Arab women and families to find convenient ways of communicating with each other and with their home institutions. 3- Providing Arab governments and institutions with the available information about where their citizens abroad are located. Most Arabs abroad, especially women, have been able to act as presentable ambassadors of their countries and have gained the know-how necessary to help their home countries. This network is now operational on the net at :

17/6/2007 AWO Digital Content The AWO has initiated and financed these projects as part of its contribution to the building of the knowledge society. In line with the Action Line 3 of Tunis Agenda ( Access to information & Knowledge ), AWO has made the data and outcomes of these projects available on the internet free of charge.

17/6/2007 AWO Digital Contents We call upon international, regional and intergovernmental organizations for: Collaboration and exchange of experience in related AWO project Translation into other Official UN languages Expansion cover larger geographical scope) Advanced technical approaches
