CARBOHYDRATES Any group of organic compounds Types: – Simple  (sugars) – Complex  (starches) Provides energy 50 % the food you eat Releases insulin Sources: – Grains, fruit, dairy, candy, vegetables, etc…

FATS Glycerol and fatty acids Types: – Saturated  (consists of triglycerides) – Unsaturated  ( capable of absorbing more than saturated) – Cholesterol  (waxy steroid) used to reserve energy Supplies insulation Sources: – Meats, fish, eggs, dairy, baked goods, etc…

PROTEINS complex organic macromolecules Types: Whey  ( watery part of milk) Casein  ( found in milk ) Egg  ( egg and products made by ) Function as hormones, enzymes, structural proteins, etc…… Only source of nitrogen in body Needed to gain muscle Sources: Seafood, dairy, meat, nuts, etc….
