Overview of Today’s Webinar Review goals of REL AP’s cross-alliance webinar series. Briefly introduce each of REL AP’s research alliances. Learn about the work of the Kentucky College and Career Readiness Alliance (KyCCRA).

Goals of Cross-Alliance Webinar Series Learn about how REL AP research alliances are structured, including the variety in membership, type, and focus area(s). – Spotlight on one or two alliances per webinar. Hear how other alliances are using research and data to address their topics of interest. Share contact information for follow-up networking with members of other alliances and REL AP staff members.

KyCCRA Membership 7 regional educational cooperatives: – Southeast/South-Central Educational Cooperative (SE/SC). – Central Kentucky Educational Cooperative (CKEC). – Green River Regional Educational Cooperative (GRREC). – Kentucky Valley Educational Cooperative (KVEC). – Northern Kentucky Cooperative for Educational Services (NKCES). – Ohio Valley Educational Cooperative (OVEC). – West Kentucky Educational Cooperative (WKEC). State-level agencies: – Kentucky Department of Education (KDE). – Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE). 11

Expectations for KyCCRA Member Organizations Appoint representative to core planning team, who will: – Meet monthly (by phone) to inform and monitor project plans. – Create mechanism to engage organization in the work of the alliance (such as appoint/identify committee to manage work, present at board meetings). Member districts have the opportunity, but are not required, to participate in KyCCRA projects. Participating organizations provide access to relevant data. There is no cost to participate other than dedication of staff time. 12

Engaging KyCCRA Alliance Members Monthly core planning team meetings (typically by phone conference). REL Appalachia staff participation in member organization events: – KDE/CPE meetings and events. – Regional educational cooperative meetings. Alliance member participation in planning REL events. 13

KyCCRA Project Goals and Topics Goals: – Understand the use and effectiveness of strategies to prepare students for college and careers, particularly dual enrollment/dual credit courses. – Understand and increase student engagement in schools. – Enhance educator understanding and effectiveness in promoting college and career readiness. Topics: – College and career readiness interventions. – Student engagement. – Dual enrollment/dual credit programs. – Teacher turnover and effectiveness. 15

KyCCRA Project Overview College and career readiness interventions: – In-person event: Planning a system of interventions to prepare students for college and careers. – Technical assistance: Evaluating Kentucky’s “Intervention Tab” data collection tool. – Report: Participation and Pass Rates for College Preparatory Transition Courses in Kentucky. – Bridge event: Teaching academic content and literacy to English language learners. Student engagement: – Workshops and webinars: Measuring student engagement. – Technical assistance: Interpreting student engagement data. 16

KyCCRA Project Overview (continued) Dual enrollment/dual credit (DE/DC) programs: – Data catalog: Availability of DE/DC course data. – Report: Implementation of DE/DC Programs in Non-Urban Kentucky School Districts. – Report: What Do We Know about Kentucky High School Students’ Participation in (and Completion of) DE/DC Courses? Teacher turnover and effectiveness: – Report: Stayers, Movers, and Leavers in Kentucky’s Public Schools: The Teaching Workforce from 2008/09 to 2011/12. – Workshops: Action research in the classroom. – Workshops: Principal leadership for effective use of Professional Growth and Effectiveness System (PGES) data. 17
