Music is an art form whose medium is sound and silence. Music is composed and performed for many purposes, ranging from aesthetic pleasure, religious or ceremonial purposes, or as an entertainment product for the marketplace. Music can be divided into genres and subgenres. Performance is the physical expression of music.It can either be rehearsed or improvised.

The history of music The existence of musical instruments can be traced all the way back to the Paleolithic era. Musical instruments like harps, flutes, lyres and lutes were used in ancient Egypt and Greece.

In the Middle Ages music was mainly composed for church services, while music composed during the Renaissance was more focused on secular themes.

The era of Baroque music( ) began when the first operas were written. Composers from this era include Johann Sebastian Bach and F. Handel.

During the Classical Period ( ), importance was given to instrumental music and symphony was invented. The best known composers from this era are W.A. Mozart ans L.Beethoven.
