8 HOW LIBRARIES ARE USING DELICIOUS I.Using tags and tag bundles to organize web resources or other online resources What are tags ? Tags are keyword-like one-word descriptors assigned to data to organize and find it. This categorization system is also known as "folksonomy". Folksonomy (also called social tagging) is a categorization system developed over time by folks. You can assign as many tags to a bookmark as you like and you can always rename or delete the tags later. All tags you choose are at the same level and do not form any hierarchy.

9 I. Using tags and tag bundles to organize web resources or other online resources The only limitation on tags is that they must not include spaces. So if your web page needs a two-word descriptor like "Clark University", you may want to tag it as “CU”, “Clark-University”, “ClarkUniversity”, “Clark.University”, “Clark_University”, or whatever else makes sense to you. What is a tag bundle? A Tag Bundle is a Delicious featurewhich allows you to combine several related tags into a logical grouping to create another level of hierarchy, a broader category. For instance, you might combine the tags "art", "art_history", and "paintings" into a bundle and call it "Arts".

10 I. Examples of using tags and tag bundles 1. University College Dublin: linking each subject heading from their web resources to its delicious bookmarks. ndex.html

13 II. Using Del.icio.us Tag Rolls to display a Tag Cloud on their library’s website What are Tag Rolls? Tag Rolls are a Delicious feature that allow you to display a cloud or list of your Delicious tags as part of your website by embedding a piece of javascript into your website. What is a Tag Cloud? A tag cloud is a different way to view your bookmarks. It displays tags according to their weight and frequency relatively with other tags. It is done with appropriate font sizes and colors. The more important a tag is, the bigger or “louder” it appears.
