Integrative Spatial Holistic Change System Oriented
Phys. Geo. Selects and uses information form a number of other disciplines Biology Meteorology Chemistry Astronomy Oceanology
Studies location, distributions, and patterns of a wide variety of phenomena that influence the Earth’s surface This includes something as small as a pond to as large as the Milky Way
Examines the ‘big picture’ Considers the relationships among various elements and energy flows on the Earth. Cutting down a forest or the eruption of a volcano can influence the climate and vegetation of areas located thousands of kilometres away. Ex. Earthquake in Alaska caused a hurricane in China.
Phys. Geo. is concerned with change. It sees Earth as a dynamic planet Changes occur over the surface of the Earth and over time. At times changes are fast and dramatic Rivers flooding Earthquakes shattering cities, etc.
Phys. Geo. uses systems to organize and understand the diverse and understand the diverse and complex processes operating on our planets. Like a filing cabinet
