 Integrative  Spatial  Holistic  Change  System Oriented

 Phys. Geo. Selects and uses information form a number of other disciplines  Biology  Meteorology  Chemistry  Astronomy  Oceanology

 Studies location, distributions, and patterns of a wide variety of phenomena that influence the Earth’s surface  This includes something as small as a pond to as large as the Milky Way

 Examines the ‘big picture’  Considers the relationships among various elements and energy flows on the Earth.  Cutting down a forest or the eruption of a volcano can influence the climate and vegetation of areas located thousands of kilometres away.  Ex. Earthquake in Alaska caused a hurricane in China.

 Phys. Geo. is concerned with change.  It sees Earth as a dynamic planet  Changes occur over the surface of the Earth and over time.  At times changes are fast and dramatic  Rivers flooding  Earthquakes shattering cities, etc.

 Phys. Geo. uses systems to organize and understand the diverse and understand the diverse and complex processes operating on our planets.  Like a filing cabinet

 Using the text (pg. 8 & 9) choose one system (Morphological, Cascading, Eco, or Altered)  Read the section and create a visual representation of the system (using the paper provided)  Be prepared to share this with the class.
