EU funding under People programme of Framework 7 for any area of research (science, arts, engineering, medicine) Three main aims of Marie Curie Actions –Benefit European Union –Maintain competitiveness European research –Support the mobility of researchers into and around Europe Aims for researchers –Career advancement –Strengthen multi- or interdisciplinary skills –Training-through-research Marie Curie Actions

Individual Fellowships 1.International Outgoing Fellowship (IOF) 2.Intra-European Fellowship (IEF) 3.International Incoming Fellowship (IIF) Way to….. –Fund a new post-doc –Fund an overseas colleague/collaborator to work in your lab No age limit for Marie Curie Fellowships

Intra-European Fellowship –Move to a different European country to carry out research –National of any country, as long as you currently live in a European country –Funding for months –Grants for advanced training and career development Learn new (complimentary) technique Training-through-research Inter-sectoral and interdisciplinary knowledge transfer Individual Fellowships

International Incoming Fellowship –Move from a third country to a European country (in which you have spent less than 12 months in last 3 years) –Can have an optional 1 year return phase to your country of origin –Funding for months –Career advancement Transfer of knowledge into host organisation Establish new collaborations Individual Fellowships

International Outgoing Fellowship –28 million in 2010 –In 2008 ~ 440 proposals 25% success rate –In 2009 ~ 600 proposals 20% success rate Intra-European Fellowship –95 million in 2010 –In 2008 ~ 1740 proposals 26% success rate –In 2009 ~ 2400 proposals 24% success rate International Incoming Fellowship –28 million in 2010 –In 2008 ~ 660 proposals 21% success rate –In 2009 ~1045 proposals 15% success rate

–Call opens on 17 th March 2010 –Call closes on 17 th August 2010 at 4pm (BST) –Similar dates each year –Results announced – December 2010 –Start grant – from March 2011 (earliest) to March 2012 (12 months after grant agreement signed) Individual Fellowships

–Apply together with a host institution –Application usually written by the fellow –Open calls found on Marie Curie Actions website –Proposals submitted using EPSS (find through Google) –Can only submit one application at a time –All applications and reports must be in English –Dont leave application to the last minute [deadline time is 4pm (5pm in Brussels)] –Check eligibility of researcher Individual Fellowships
