AMFICTIONIES In Greek Mythology is reported that after the flood, Deykalionas and Pyra after the creation with the help of Zeus, the gender of humanity, have their own children. The first-born son was Hellinas who built the city “ Hellas “ and the second-born son was Amfiktyon, who created the first Amfiktionia.

The establishment of Amfiktionia is almost happened in the same time with the foundation of cities –countries. In this period lived in this region Iones - Dorians - Aioleis - Achaioi. The first aim of foundation of Amfiktionia was religious. But gradually the amfiktionia was organized in a very strong religious and political organiztion.

One from the first in Greece Amfiktionia was of Demetra goodness, in Ancient Anthili. All people who leaved on mount Oiti meet each other in this temple. When this amfiktionia joined with other neighboring, a most brilliant and famous Amfiktionia, has been created.

The Delfian Amfiktionia or Amfiktionia of Pylon (Gates) and Delfi, had two religious centres: the one of them was the temple of Dimitra and Girl, in the Gates (Thermopyles) - near Ancient Anthili - and the other it was the temple of Apollo in Delphi. The Amfiktionian Congress was convened regularly two times annually, in spring in Delphi that were named [Earini Pylaia] and in the fall in Anthili that was named [Metoporini Pylaia]. The “Afiktionian curse” stoped the wars between the cities. The creation of Amfiktionia meant for the ancient Greek world, the beginning of a common political and national life. Wars, common religious, economic and social challenges gave to Amfiktionia a power, cultivated common language, religion and culture for all Greeks with a common history and common future.
