Into the Fields Internship & Sowing Seeds for Change Fellowship
FARMWORKER FACTS There are 2-3 million farmworkers in the United States. Agriculture is consistently ranked as one of the three most dangerous occupations in the U.S. Farmworkers’ average annual income is $11,000; for a family it is approximately $16,000. This makes farm work the second lowest paid job in the nation (after domestic labor).

“I learned this summer that facts and theories are just a small part of understanding inequalities and injustices in the world, a bigger part is listening and understanding individual stories. Before coming to NC this April, I hadn’t thought much about where my food comes from, the people who grow it, the way the agricultural system affects entire families’ lives.” Addie Bean-Thompson, 2014 Intern “The most impactful experience during my summer in both Wilson and traveling for theater were the conversations. Whether in the car transporting a worker or facilitating theater discussion, it amazed me how easily some opened up and told me their personal tales of struggle and hardship- be it leaving their families, working, or the days spent walking in the desert to cross the border.” Andrea Barreto, 2013 Intern
