Pip finds out about bread.
I was making bread this week. I used some flour. This is how I found out where the flour comes from. I started in the countryside on my friends farm.
Pip found a field full of wheat.
He watched the farmer cut the wheat using a big machine.
After the field looked full of little cut sticks.
The stems were rolled together. These will be used for animals’ bedding later.
He took a closer look at the stems.
Pip saw the ears of wheat. These are what they grind to make flour.
Pip thought he would make some bread. So he read the instructions carefully.
First he found all the things he would need to make the bread.
He put all the flour and yeast mix into a large bowl.
Then he poured 350mls of warm water into the bowl.
After that he mixed the flour and water together using a fork.
The flour and water became dough, which Pip placed on a floury surface to stop it from sticking.
Pip kneaded the dough for 10 mins then put it into a tray.
Next he left the dough to prove. He is going to bake it tomorrow, so covered it up and then put it in the fridge.
Wow! Look how the bread has risen. It’s nearly twice the size.
After that the bread was put into a hot oven for 20 minutes.
Finally the bread was golden brown and ready to be eaten.
