Italy is located in southern Europe. Italy is a peninsula that extends out in to the central Mediterranean Sea. Italy is west of France and to its east is Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia-Hercegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Albania and Greece. North of Italy is Switzerland and Austria. The capitol of Italy is Rome. Italy’s money is called a euro. Euros are found in Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxemburg, Italy, Greece, Finland, Austria and Ireland. Euros are worth 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, and 500. Italy’s official language is Italian. Italy’s money and language

One famous person in Italy is the pope. The pope lives in a holy city called Vatican City. There are about 800 people in Vatican City. People here speak Italian, Latin and French, people in Vatican City rely on the pope for help and they think as the pope as a father. The religion here is Roman Catholic. Another famous Italian is the world famous artist Michelangelo. He was known for art he made during the Renaissance. In Italy, there are about 60 million people living in Italy. That forth largest populated country in all of Europe. In cities, most people in Italy would usually live in concrete apartment buildings, unless you were rich. Italians wear just about the same clothes that we would wear here but a bit more fashionable. Most people in Italy are NOT proud for there flag. You would rarely find a flag in or on someone's house. In Italy, it is against the law to burn, damage or destroy the flag. The Northern part of Italy has hot summers and cold winters(temperatures for about 80 to 90 degrees). The south usually has long hot summers (temperatures from 50 to 60 degrees of temperature). Mountain areas have a nice, cool and long winter with a very short summer. Italy's climate

Then in 1860, Northern Italy joined the Kingdom of Sardinia. Then in 1861, Victor Emmanuel II was crowned king.1911, Italy defeats the Ottoman empire. Then in 1914, World War I begins. 1918, Italy’s allies win WWI. 1925, Benito Mussolini becomes a dictator. Then in 1939, Italy conquers Albania and Mussolini sides with Hitler. 1943, Italy surrenders to their allies and declare war on Germany. 1945, Mussolini is shot and WWII ends. Most people in Italy love to cook and they take much pride in it(unlike their flag). Italian people’s most important meal of the day is lunch. Italians eat many unusual things such as snails, octopus, hedgehogs, squid and donkey. Italians usually only have just a milky coffee in the morning. Before Italian people eat, they say Buon appetito which means good appetite wishing everyone a good appetite before they eat. Did you know that pizza was created in a city called Naples. Pasta is the most important food in Italy. Italians always have water, bread and wine on there dining table. Flipping a loaf of bread on the dining table is considered bad luck. Italy’s food
