One famous person in Italy is the pope. The pope lives in a holy city called Vatican City. There are about 800 people in Vatican City. People here speak Italian, Latin and French, people in Vatican City rely on the pope for help and they think as the pope as a father. The religion here is Roman Catholic. Another famous Italian is the world famous artist Michelangelo. He was known for art he made during the Renaissance. Most people in Italy are NOT proud for there flag. You would rarely find a flag in or on someone's house. In Italy, it is against the law to burn, damage or destroy the flag. Then in 1914, World War I begins. 1918, Italy’s allies win WWI. 1925, Benito Mussolini becomes a dictator. Then in 1939, Italy conquers Albania and Mussolini sides with Hitler. 1943, Italy surrenders to their allies and declare war on Germany. 1945, Mussolini is shot and WWII ends. Most people in Italy love to cook and they take much pride in it(unlike their flag). Italian people’s most important meal of the day is lunch. Italians eat many unusual things such as snails, octopus, hedgehogs, squid and donkey. Italians usually only have just a milky coffee in the morning. Before Italian people eat, they say Buon appetito which means good appetite wishing everyone a good appetite before they eat. Did you know that pizza was created in a city called Naples.
