What is Streaming Video This is video content that you can view over the Internet, from any computer. Sometimes it can be downloaded, sometimes it can only be viewed online. Either way, hundreds of thousands of videos are available anywhere there is a computer. The number expands exponentially every year.

Why Stream Video? This is a tool our students relate to. Watch relevant material anywhere, any time. In class or at home. – Absences no longer affect what is seen.

Access at Sutherland Once the tablets arrive, all classes should have access. Until then, any computer with TV out capability and the right cables will work.

Available Videos Many organizations provide free access to some of their material. –Annenberg/Corporation for Public Broadcasting.Annenberg/Corporation for Public Broadcasting –PBS Online.PBS Online –CBC Archives.CBC Archives –MIT World; Distributed Intelligence.MIT World; Distributed Intelligence …and many others.

Searchable Upload Sites Individuals can use many services to upload videos to – most are personal, but there are also documentaries and other useful videos. –Google Video Search.Google Video Search –Guba.Guba –Stage6.Stage6 –TeacherTube.TeacherTube …and others.

United Streaming This is a paid service –that our PAC has covered for us for the past few years (a little under $2 per student per year). It is affiliated with the Discovery Channel.

United Streaming Our school license allows unlimited access for staff and students – at school and at home. You need to register at –At the homepage you will be asked for a New User Code. Staff use 3FBF 2BD2 Students use 4656 D66E –Fill in the registration information and you will have access to thousands of full videos and their parts. These can be streamed and downloaded.

United Streaming This service is easy to use. Search videos by: –Keyword. –Subject. –Grade. –Curriculum Standard.

United Streaming Once you find what you want: –Play the video or segment by streaming. –Save it to show later with your computer’s media player. Playing a saved video saves bandwidth – but uses computer hard-drive space.

To Conclude… Streaming video is another useful tool to help us teach. Whether you use small clips to illustrate points or introduce topics, or use full length videos, it is a huge improvement on buying and ordering AV materials from afar – often it is exactly the same material! – just a mouse- click away – and often at no cost.
