SPRING 2011 Power Point

Important Vocabulary PowerPoint is a presentation graphic program. (Used as a guide/visual...) Placeholders are a designated area in PowerPoint layout that can be used to insert text and graphics.

Important vocabulary (continued) Transitions are visual effects used when a slide moves off of the screen and another moves onto the screen. After you apply a transition, a star appears below the slide in the slide sorter view and below the slide number in slide tab.

Important vocabulary (continued) Animation is applying movement to a text or an object to control its display during the presentation.

7 Deadly Sins of Power Point Presentations Slide transitions and sound effects Standard clipart Presentation templates Text-heavy slides (5 lines, phrases) Make sure the font and graphic size is appropriate Reading Faith in technology Retrieved from:

How do I make my presentation powerful? Know your audience. Communicate a clear objective. Form your message – maybe limit yourself to three main points. Connect with your audience.

Powerful presentation tips (continued) Use Power Point as the backdrop  It should be organized and have a consistent look Write speaker notes and prepare handouts  Remember to conserve paper – print HANDOUTS with 6 per slide – more than that may be hard to read... Rehearse, critique, and revise your presentation
