OSA’s It’s not (just) about hours – it’s about SUPPORT!! We need to educate OSA’s about who we are and what we do HOW???

OSA’s Talking about barriers… l Common LanguageWay that this could be presented instead Person has physical disabilities Person’s physical disabilities result in access and productivity issue at the worksite for example, …..speed in shucking oysters is at 25% of his coworkers average speed Person has no literacy or numeracy The job requires … to check s daily which requires full assistance as he has limited literacy. Self esteem …. will not respond to colleagues at work when they speak to him which appears to be due to his low self esteem, this has impacted on his ability to form friendships and generate natural coworker support in the workplace Not motivated to work….. often expresses a desire “to get out of this crap job” which he indicates affects his motivation to perform at work. He is unable to articulate what makes the job “crap”.

OSA’s Talking about support… l Common LanguageWay that this could be presented instead Fortnightly drop ins A regular routine of checking progress, problem solving issues and mentoring social interaction is delivered through at least fortnightly contact at the worksite. Worksite visits Assisting with task learning in the workplace. Over the past month this has been focused on the task of ………….. Phone calls to the employer Employer liaison to assist in developing strategies to overcome the workplace barrier of …….. Social support requiredProvide assistance with external factors such as vehicle reliance that is impacting on reliable attendance at work.
