Technology in Language Teaching Presenters: Thúy My & Ngọc Thúy CONTENTS Pre-speaking: Warm-up activity While speaking: Distinguishing opinions from facts Definition Common expressions Examples Practice Post-speaking: Application in real life conversations

Technology in Language Teaching Presenters: Thúy My & Ngọc Thúy Warm-up class activity Instructions: Students get into groups of three or four to play an interesting game. This game consists of 5 riddles which require students to think wisely and logically in order to get the correct answer.

Technology in Language Teaching Presenters: Thúy My & Ngọc Thúy Rules : Students in the same group think of the answer together and one student will raise his hand to be allowed to answer in front of the other groups. The group which raises its hand first will have the priority to give the answer first. If that group does not have a correct answer, the other groups will have the chance to answer the question again.

Technology in Language Teaching Presenters: Thúy My & Ngọc Thúy Each question only receives 2 possible answers. If the first group gets the correct answer, it will score 100 points for each question. If the first group fails to get the right answer and the second group can answer the question correctly, the second group will score 50 points for that question. After that, the game will moves on with the next question.

Technology in Language Teaching Presenters: Thúy My & Ngọc Thúy The game will stop when all the 6 riddles are given feedback from the teacher and which group has the highest score will be the winner and receive a beautiful gift. The most important thing is that each group when giving the answer has to use one of the patterns below: “ We think that …” “ We feel that …” “ In our opinion …” “ In our view …”

So what is an opinion and what is a fact? And how do they differ from each other?
