Introduction The ICT developments in Tuvalu have traditionally been hampered by dispersed populations, small size and vast ocean distances separating islands. These circumstances impose large costs on service provision in education, economic development, social welfare, health, travel and communication. It lead to the slow growth of important industries such as fisheries, agriculture and tourism. Improving Telecommunication and Information Technology simply overcome these circumstances; > reducing barriers of distance > improving service delivery across the country and the Pacific Community > maximising the economic growth of every community > reduce costs etc

Mission and Vision To provide an easy accessible, affordable Information and Communication Technologies to all Tuvaluan. Promoting a greater awareness on Information and Communication Technologies to all level of the communities To simply develop and retain a knowledgeable workforce in ICT. Develop ICT infrastructure to promote universal access. Establish and implement ICT policies.

Strategic Plans The ICT POLICY is still under the formulation process where the ICT Task Force has the mandate to compile, produce and enforce through authoritative consent. The GovNet project has now the capacity to implement e-Government services in the new Government Office building. Providing our ISP customers with Wi-Fi Wireless Internet Connectivity The expansion of our satellite link bandwidth capacity from 512k/128k (down/up) to 1024k/256k (down/up) Providing Internet services to outer islands Connecting of all Government Ministries and Departments via optical fiber cable. (Setting up of a Government Wide Area Network)

Organization Issues 1.The lack of knowledge on network users on the general, proper and effective used of Network resources. 2.The need to improve network securities on the Government Network. 3.The need to establish information security policies. 4.No redundancy in terms of internet satellite link. 5.Lack of financial support especially from the Government. 6.No direct link and package routing between the two main internet service provider.

Results of Issues 1.Computers crashes caused by virus attacks. 2.The corrupt and lost of important information from computers within the network. 3.Unauthorized access to and from the internet. 4.The download and execution of harmful computer programs. 5.Questions will raised about the reliability of all internet and network services. 6.The round trip of packages from one ISP to the other.

Causes of Issues 1.Lack of skills upon ICT personnel and mainly the low accessible to training opportunities. 2.The financial burden that always pull us back from the rest of the world in terms of Information Technology. 3.The fast growing of these Information Technologies and their importance barely gain the mine and hearts of our top management people. 4.The lack of human resources (IT personnel) within the organization. 5.ICT developments is still in it early stage in Tuvalu.
