Welcome Parents! WE ARE SO GLAD THAT YOU ARE HERE! WE WANT TO SHARE SOME IMPORTANT FOURTH GRADE INFORMATION WITH YOU! LET’S START WITH…

The Leader in Me  Habits are behaviors that you repeat without thinking about them.  Here at Estes, we are working to include 7 specific habits into our daily lives. They are:

and…

Behavior Plan Our fourth grade team uses a clip system to track behavior. Each student is responsible for his/her choices. Every students’ clip starts on GREEN:

As we make good choices, our clips move up!

But, if we make bad choices, our clips move down.

In fourth grade, reading becomes more than simply practicing the skill of reading. We will take all of our previous knowledge about reading and use it to discover more complex text. The curriculum includes: Reading

Also…

Writing: We write about our reading everyday.

We use the R.A.C.E. acronym to answer questions about our reading.  R estate the Question  A nswer the Question  C ite the Source  E xplain

We will also write narratives, informative, persuasive papers, as well as other types during our content time.

Math  Our math curriculum is broken into several broad areas of study. These are placed in the year as follows:

Social Studies In fourth grade, we will study North Carolina. This curriculum includes a look at North Carolina’s:

Science  We will have so much fun in Science this year! Our curriculum includes:

Homework Homework is very important in fourth grade. We use it to practice skills that we have learned in class. It is also a great opportunity for your student to work on Habit 3 “Put First Things First” and organization.

Your student has a schedule for their weekly homework. Please make sure that your student completes homework every night (Mon.-Thurs.)

Your student has a list of Spelling Homework activities. There is an assignment for each night. If it is missing, please let your student’s teacher know.

And…

ETC…  We have several optional activities for families to participate in. These raise money for our school and buy materials for our classroom! They include:

Our Website!  main/ main/3311  Or Google Estes Elementary School

Thank you!!!  Please check out your child’s teacher’s website to stay current on all information!  We thank you for your support and look forward to a great fourth grade year!!
