Compare and Contrast Biome Specific Birds of Minnesota

Warblers: Palm and Cerulean  The Palm Warbler comes to Minnesota in migration and stays for the summer (breeding) in the Northern central (Coniferous) area of the state.  The Cerulean Warbler comes to Minnesota for the Summer (breeding) in the Northeastern corner of the state. Prairie region and maybe some ecotone of the Deciduous.

Aquatic Wading Birds: Common Merganser and Trumpeter Swan  The Common Merganser comes to Minnesota mostly in Migration but stays for winter in the Southeastern Prairie/ecotone part of the state. It also stays in the Northeastern/Coniferous part of the state for summer (breeding).  The Trumpeter Swan comes to central (Deciduous/Prairie) Minnesota in the summer for breeding also. I remember seeing these birds on my lake in the summer all the time. They definitely come back every year.

Ground Nesting Birds: Mourning Warbler, Killdeer, and Herring Gull  Morning Warblers come here in migration in the Prairie, Deciduous and Coniferous forest. But stay for the summer (breeding) in the Northern (Coniferous) part of the state only.  Killdeer come to Minnesota for breeding in the summer. They can be found throughout the state, in all biomes and ecotones.  The Herring Gull comes to Minnesota in migration in all biomes and can be found in the summer for breeding in the Northeastern (Coniferous) part of the state only.

Falcons: Peregrine and Gyrfalcon  The Peregrine Falcon is seen only in a small spot of the Deciduous forest (eastern) and the eastern part of the Coniferous forest. It is one of the rarest birds at prey.  The Gyrfalcon can be seen in Minnesota during the winter. It is known to inhabit the central part of Minnesota on up. So notably, the Coniferous forest and part of the prairie.

Owls: Northern Hawk Owl, Eastern Screech-Owl, and  Northern Hawk owls inhabit the northern coniferous part of the state. The very northern part of the state to be exact; along the border.  Eastern Screech-Owls can be found in the Prairie region of the state, and also the Deciduous.  The Burrowing Owl can be found in all biomes along the Western side of the Minnesota border.
