Phoenix Convention Center Phoenix, Arizona Engaging and Empowering Building Occupants to Meet Energy Goals Track 9: Institutional Change August 12, 2015

Energy Exchange : Federal Sustainability for the Next Decade Learning Outcomes By attending this session, attendees will: Better understanding of how to (and how not to) engage building occupants to achieve energy goals. Share strategies for crossing organizational silos to achieve consumption and cost reductions required to improve resource management in the face of a changing climate. Highlight process steps needed to design persistent behavioral change strategies via presentation of case studies. Understand the potential savings from a good “energy culture” on a campus or installation, and how it can be enhanced. Specifically, how it is influenced by: “affordances” and the physical/architectural landscape of the facilities the occupants inhabit; relationship building; education and instruction; information feedback; normative influence. Defining “successful outcomes” and suggestions for evaluating and measuring those outcomes. 2
