Today, you can - write an essay about the teacher that you liked most. - use the expressions about the qualities of good teachers.

Let’s listen to what three students are saying about their favorite teachers. Please complete the table. Listen again and check your answers.

GinaJennyChris What is the teacher’s name? Ms. PriceMr. PetersonMs. May When did she meet him/her? When she first went to America When she was a middle school student Last year What subject did she/he teach her? ESLBiologyEnglish Why did she like him/her? When she was frustrated about English, the teacher calmed her down. The teacher led the students outside on field trips, and let them have fun studying about life. When she didn’t want to study, the teacher talked with her a lot and tried to be a true friend.

What are some qualities that the three teachers have? What are some other qualities of good teachers?

Let’s look at Gina’s script. This can be a writing sample for you.

My name is Gina. I’d like to talk about my favorite teacher, Ms. Price. She was my ESL teacher when I first went to the U.S.A. I didn’t understand any English then. I remember that I cried a lot, frustrated at not being able to talk. Ms. Price always took me to the back of the classroom and calmed me down. She also helped me practice English. I really appreciated her.

What was your favorite teacher’s name? When did you meet him/her? What subject did she/he teach you? Why did you like him/her? Write about the teacher that you liked most.

Make groups of four (1) Within your group, make two pairs(A&B, C&D) and read your writing to your partner. (2) Change partners within the group(A&C, B&D) and talk to your new partner about what you heard from your old partner. (3) Change partners again(A&D, B&C) and talk to your new partner about what you heard and check with each other to discover if the story is correct.
