CNBOP-PIB Scientific and Research Centre for Fire Protection (CNBOP-PIB) is: a research institute of the State Fire Service supervised by the Ministry of Internal Affairs an institution with 42 years history a research centre with the status of National Research Institute workplace for about 100 researchers Main tasks: certification of firefighting equipment professional expertise concerning fire protection systems, design and installation research on safety and innovative solutions promoting safety 2

OBJECTIVES 7 The main objective of the project is to develop a methodology for risk assessment in emergency, including the destruction or disruption of critical infrastructure, tailored to the requirements of planning and programming documents preparing for the polish crisis management system Objectives in detail: Preparing theoretical basis of risk assessment, which would be used by the participants of crisis management Preparing principles for assessment dependencies between critical infrastructure systems Preparing a catalogue of dangers for national security

OBJECTIVES 8 Objectives in detail: Development of principles and guidelines to collect the necessary information for the risk assessment methodology and the construction of a database of threats Designing IT tools which allow to use the developed methodology Preparing concept of knowledge management system Preparing and conducting the cycle of workshops for crisis management participants

PROGRESS 10  Research concerning analysis national legislation and guidelines in the field of risk management and civil planning Research concerning analysis national and international standards in the field of risk management Research concerning analysis method of risk assessment using in other countries Preparing questionanaire of survey concerning needs of participants of crisis management in the field of risk assessment for preparing planning documents on different levels of administration

EXPECTED RESULTS 11 The result of this project will be prototype of IT tool supporting the work on the risk analysis based on technical documentation prepared in the project At this stage, the CNBOP-PIB task is to prepare guidelines for units of local government and government administration in the field of risk identification and risk analysis

EMERGENT 12 Project title: Emergency Management in Social Media Generation Financed by the Seventh Framework Programme (7FP) Leader – University of Paderborn [UPB] Project was elected for funding by the EC and is under negotiations. The Scientific and Research Centre for Fire Protection – National Research Institute is a member of the consortium

OBJECTIVES OF EMERGENT 13 The assumptions of the project is understanding the positive and the negative impact of social media in emergencies in order to: enhance objective and perceived safety and security of citizens before, during and after emergencies strengthen the role of European companies dealing with services and products related to the aimed research and development results

OBJECTIVES OF EMERGENT 14 Furthermore Emergent will: examine the role played by current mainstream social media in emergencies and assess their impact provide with assistance to exchange emergency-relevant information across borders give possibilities for citizens to report on incidents and to discuss them
