Japanese culture & customs Island country – about the size of California with half the population of the U.S.! – very mountainous Tokyo, Japan HS is very demanding/competitive – similar to Greek culture Students go to cram school after regular school so they can learn more and receive better grades

Japanese students attend school 240 days out of the year, 60 days (2 months) longer than American students. We have summer reading. They have a ton more homework during time off. All hard work ends in HS!

Japanese culture & customs cont’d. Japanese teens DO NOT drive. They are only allowed licenses when they turn 18. They travel by subway or bus. Comic books are very popular, even amongst adults! They are educational too! Similar to U.S. style but a little more formal Kimonos are only for special occasions such as “Coming of Age Day” – 20 years old! City Hall Ceremony – Now YOU are an adult!
