APPROACH

THE TOOLS Workforce Data Modelling (WDM) enables the simulation of workforce factors interactive web-based Need- Demand- Supply Safe and Effective Staffing Levels (SESL) Tool accessible via CSP member login Detailed guidance notes It will not Make the decision about PT staffing Generate a number Generate a gap analysisPrescribe a skill mix

DEMAND THEMES 7 day /on call/twilight services Patients clinical condition*Geography Local population and demographics Skill mix decisionsService challenges (pressures)*Patient access to the service Access to support and other services Type of service provider*Key local performance indicators to be met by local services Physical environment and equipment required to deliver the service Patient outcomes and quality careNon clinical components of physiotherapy roles

SUPPLY THEMES Skill MixHR issues Staff competenciesEducation and training Staff activityService challenges (pressures) Management challenges – Leadership style Technology

Demand : Supply Return to Practice support Demand Supply

Increase in retirement age to x Increased support for return to practice 5% increase in training numbers...

Demand : Supply Return to Practice support Demand Supply

Baseline Approach 1.Future Demand is based on demographic changes 2.Establish current activity of PT services by patient age band i.e how much does each condition create? 3.Multiply (for each age band) the total population size by activity rate to generate total activity 4.Sum total activity over all bands 5.Demand will be relative to 2014 baseline 6.Assumption is that 2014 =Demand for the service

WDM question Does this approach make sense? What are the PT conditions to include and where is the incidence data required? How would you use the WDM tool in Northern Ireland?

SESL Tool Stage of Development: Demonstrations to illustrate the functionality and seek advice

SESL Questions From the tool have we included all the correct organisations? Have we used the correct terminology? Are the proposed ‘red flags’ appropriate?
