Overview of Reading I Short Story Nonfiction Novel Poetry Drama Self-Selected books, articles, etc.

Silent Sustained Reading You will be reading in class daily from a self-selected independent reading book. AR tests will not be required but can be taken for points. There will be a choice of methods of reporting on a book. You will be able to select the way you want to report on a book from a list. You are REQUIRED to bring a book to class EVERY DAY or have access to a book on your device. You will be using these books for assignments during class, so it is IMPORTANT that you have a book.  Each 9-weeks you will be responsible for completing some form of report or presentation on what you have read. You will not have to report on every book you read, but you will have a total number of points that you will be required to earn.

Library Students can go to the library before school (7:45) with a pass Students can go to the library during their lunch with a pass Students can go to the library after school (no pass necessary) Students will also be able to go to the library during class when appropriate Every student is required to have a school ID.

Classroom Guidelines When the tardy bell rings, students should be in their seats reading their independent reading books silently. In the time before class starts, students need to sharpen pencils, etc. Go to the rest room in the five minutes between classes. No passes during class. Purses and backpacks are to be kept under the desks or on the floor. Make sure they are not blocking the aisles Follow the Caddo and Shreve guidelines for food and drinks. Fundraising buying and selling are done outside of the classroom.

Other guidelines Listen while someone is talking. One person speaks at a time. Stay in your seat unless there is an activity that requires you to move, or you have permission to get up. We will be discussing procedures for different class activities over the next few days.
