How to Properly Run a Fifth Grade Basketball Practice By: Danny O’Malley

Overall Goal  Improve their skills  Prepare them for the future  Have Fun

Step 1- Skill Work  Start practice with what you need to accomplish  Shooting, ball handling, and passing  Remember overall goal

Step 2-Water  Hydration  Break to goof around  Short hard drills

Step 3- Team  Run through plays  Repetition repetition repetition!  Keep them engaged and focused

Step 4- Water

Step 5- Scrimmage  Kids love scrimmaging  Applies drill you did in practice to real game  Stop for teaching points

Tips for Success  High energy  Reward them  Basketball is suppose to be fun at a young age  Be positive
