N UTRITION Why do we need food? How do your cells get the energy from foods? What are the 7 components to a healthy balanced diet. What does each one of those 7 components do for you?

D ISEASES What are some diseases related to a poor diet, and characteristics/causes of each? How is cancer different from the diseases caused by a poor diet? How are all of these diseases affected by your choices or decisions?

H EALTHY L IFESTYLE C HOICES Other than diet, what are some factors that ensure your health? What is a carcinogen? What are the 3 main factors that may affect the likelihood of addiction? How does genetic make up factor into addiction specifically and what are the new advancements science has made in the field of “addiction genes”?

W HAT ’ S T HE R ISK ? We are going to complete an activity to simulate the likelihood of becoming an addict. Roughly 10% of people who experiment with drugs/alcohol become addicted! You will complete the activity with your table partner. Put your names on the sheet, read the directions and take turns rolling the die. Record your answers and then complete the “Consider This” writing prompt together on the back of the sheet. You will turn this in for a grade, so make sure your answers are well thought out and well written!

S EARCH & R ESCUE R EVIEW S TATIONS You will take your answer sheet and start at any station. All stations are named after famous scientists, so be sure to write the corresponding question and answer next to the correct scientist. The question and answer at each station DO NOT match – you must read the question, and then search out the answer. The station where you find the answer will then become your next question and so on…pay attention while I give you an example! Once you have all of the questions and answers it becomes a study guide!

P RACTICE T EST Complete the Biology Practice Test using your notes or book, but you must complete it independently! We will go over the answers before the test next class before the test.

E XTRA C REDIT O PPORTUNITY Each Search & Rescue Station was named after a famous scientist that contributed something relating to a topic we have discussed. Research, and put together a list of what each of their scientific contributions were – be brief but thorough! (main contribution and/or the contribution that relates most to the content we have covered) 1 point for each scientist & their contribution
