Deforestation has negatively effected our environment. By: Marissa & Mia

Deforestation Over the last thirty years deforestation has started to be a problem. Humans cut down trees for: Wood, fuel, fields for crops and cattle, and to make space for homes. This didn’t cause any problems until we started using trees faster than they were being replaced.

Why Is Deforestation Bad?  It can cause soil erosion.  A lack of trees to hold ground water can result in flooding.  It can cause climate changes.  Plants and animals can be driven out of their homes.

Animal Extinctions Caused By Deforestation Over half of all plant and animal species are in the tropical rainforests. Even cutting down small sections of a forest can cause plants and animals that are native to that area to become extinct.

Preventing Deforestation  Plant trees in your yard. Why: Trees give off oxygen and help retain water to prevent flooding.  Use recycled products Examples: Notebooks, shopping bags, and paper products.  Recycle Why: Recycling is a very simple way to reduce the trees needed to make new products.

Overall… Deforestation can negatively impact our environment as well as our own lives. We all can make simple changes in our life to help preserve our natural forests.
