The Description of Skin Cancer Cancer develops when DNA, the molecule found in cells that encodes genetic information, becomes damaged and the body cannot repair the damage.

Symptoms A small lump (spot or mole) that is shiny, waxy, pale in color, and smooth in texture. A red lump (spot or mole) that is firm. A sore or spot that bleeds or becomes crusty. Also look for sores that don’t heal. Rough and scaly patches on the skin. Flat scaly areas of the skin that are red or brown. Any new growth that is suspicious.

Treatment For Skin Cancer Surgery Radiation Therapy Chemotherapy Photodynamic Therapy Biologic Therapy

Prevention Tips Avoid sun during the middle of the day. Wear sunscreen year round. Wear protective clothing. Avoid tanning beds. Be aware of sun-sensitizing medications. Check skin regularly and report changes to your doctor.
