How Do We Get Involved?

 1931 – Japan begins to expand their territorial holdings  July 1937 – Japan invades China  1939 – Cash and carry policy takes effect  1940 – Germany, Italy and Japan sign the Tripartite Pact  1940 – Selective Training and Service Act is passed by Congress  March 1941 – Lend-Lease Act is passed  June 1941 – Hitler invades Soviet Union  July 1941 – Japan takes control of French Indochina  Summer 1941 – US imposes a trade embargo on Japan (Oil is primary target)  September 1941 – German U-Boat attacks increase  December 1941 – Japan attacks Pearl Harbor

 This is a failure of epic proportions  US knows of plans to attack here in January of 1941  Hideki Tojo takes control in October 1941  We ignored many warning signs US had broken their secret code We know what they are planning  Japanese fleet leaves Japan on November 25 th, 1941  Peace talks break down in December 1941  What happens on December 7 th is nothing short of a disaster

 Six aircraft carries with 180 planes attack at 7:55 AM  There are two separate attacks (8:55 AM)  Attacks on other bases on Oahu as well  The entire attack lasts less than two hours  The aftermath: 2,403 dead 1,178 wounded 21 ships sunk or damaged 300 aircraft damaged or destroyed  Three aircraft carries did escape
