CBMS relax, and beat your score!!

Mental MAth Assume your positionS

Math Review 1) find the LCM of 15 and 45 2) Simplify : 1 14/20 3) subtract .45 from 3 4) solve 20y = 40 5) what is the divisor in 36 -:- 12 = 3?

Graphing day one I can answer questions on graphical representations and data displays including bar graphs, circle graphs, frequency tables, three set venn diagrams, tally charts, and line graphs that display continuous data.

There are many different types of graphs. TRY TO LIST AS MANY AS YOU CAN ON YOUR SLATES pie graph/ circle graph bar graph - single or double frequency tables venn diagrams Tally charts line graphs DID YOU HAVE ANY MORE??

Back to the basics - tally charts HOW MANY STUDENTS HAVE FRECKLES? 4! HOW MANY STUDENTS DO NOT HAVE FRECKLES? 8!

Vocabulary FREQUENCY IS SIMPLY CHANGING THE TALLIES TO A NUMBER The new thing you need to know about tally charts it the word frequency Vocabulary FREQUENCY IS SIMPLY CHANGING THE TALLIES TO A NUMBER THIS NUMBER CAN THEN BE USED TO MAKE MANY DIFFERENT TYPES OF GRAPHS

What about double bar graphs??? I take data from the students and from their data, we make the bar graph on the board What about double bar graphs??? out of football, basketball, soccer, and tennis... write your favorite on your slate (pick one!!) 14 12 10 8 6 4 2 FOOTBALL BASKETBALL SOCCER TENNIS FOOTBALL BASKETBALL SOCCER TENNIS

WHAT CAN you TELL ME ABOUT THIS BAR GRAPH?? I have the kids come up and write in what they know on the lines Bar graphs WHAT CAN you TELL ME ABOUT THIS BAR GRAPH??

What about double bar graphs??? Now show me those slates again for a double bar graph 14 12 10 8 6 4 2 Boys FOOTBALL ____ BASKETBALL____ SOCCER____ TENNIS____ Girls FOOTBALL____ BASKETBALL____ SOCCER____ TENNIS____ FOOTBALL BASKETBALL SOCCER TENNIS

MORE TIME IS SPENT WATCHING TV IN 3RD GRADE! Question Time IS MORE TIME SPENT WATCHING TELEVISION IN 3RD GRADE OR IN 4TH GRADE? MORE TIME IS SPENT WATCHING TV IN 3RD GRADE! HERE IS 3RD GRADE... AT 120 MINUTES PER DAY HERE IS 4TH GRADE... AT 60 MINUTES PER DAY

MORE TIME IS SPENT DOING HOMEWORK IN 5TH GRADE! Question Time MORE TIME IS SPENT DOING HOMEWORK IN 5TH GRADE! I DON’T THINK THEY SURVEYED OUR SCHOOL :) IS MORE TIME SPENT WATCHING TELEVISION OR DOING HOMEWORK IN 5TH GRADE??? HERE IS 5TH GRADE TIME ON HOMEWORK HERE IS 5TH GRADE TIME ON TELEVISION

partner Time WHICH GRADE SPENDS THE MOST TIME DOING HOMEWORK? GRADE 6 WHICH GRADE SPENDS AN EQUAL AMOUNT OF TIME ON BOTH? GRADE 4 WHICH GRADES SPEND THE SAME AMOUNT OF TIME WATCHING TELEVISION AS EACH OTHER? GRADES 4 AND 5

HOW MUCH more TIME DOES 6TH GRADE SPEND ON HOMEWORK THAN 4TH GRADE? partner Time HOW MUCH more TIME DOES 6TH GRADE SPEND ON HOMEWORK THAN 4TH GRADE? 6TH = 90 MINUTES 4TH = 60 MINUTES 90 - 60 = 30 more minutes

Double bar graphs are not more work.... They just require reading the questions very carefully SO READ.... RE-READ.... FIGURE OUT WHAT THEY ARE ASKING YOU... THEN SOLVE!!

Slate time: answer the following questions on your slates 1. WHICH CLASS HAS THE MOST MALE STUDENTS? ROOM 302 2. WHICH CLASS HAS MORE GIRLS THAN BOYS? ROOM 303 3. HOW MANY MORE BOYS DOES ROOM 302 HAVE THAN ROOM 303? 3 MORE BOYS

4. WHICH ROOM HAS THE BIGGEST DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BOYS AND GIRLS? 5. WHICH CLASS HAS THE MOST STUDENTS ALL TOGETHER? ROOM 302 6. HOW MANY LESS GIRLS DOES ROOM 301 HAVE THAN ROOM 303? * CHALLENGE: HOW MANY MORE BOYS ARE THERE THAN GIRLS IN ALL OF 5TH GRADE? 7 MORE BOYS 4 LESS GIRLS

On your slate, describe the main difference between single bar graphs and double bar graphs closure SINGLE BAR GRAPHS DOUBLE BAR GRAPHS
