Topic: The Cell Phone: The Next Educational Innovation Population: This Multimedia workshop is designed for educators who are interested in taking the cell phone from distraction to educational learning tool. Outcomes: By the end of this course students will be able to: 1. Use the cell phone in an educational setting. 2. Design assignments and assessments through the use of a cell phone. 3. Use existing technology in conjunction with the use of cell phones.

Pre-Training Before we can begin creating cell phone based lessons. We first must understand the history of cell phones in the classroom. Please watch the following video so that we can begin to wrap our brains around the task at hand.

Hour 2: Incorporating Cell Phones into the Classroom
Ways to Incorporate Cell Phones into your classroom In this section of the workshop I will introduce two possible resources for you to use with cell phones in your classrooms: –Yodio.com –Polleverywhere.com
Resource Tutorials: Please watch the Yodio.com and the Polleverywhere.com tutorial videos located on the workshop wikispace under the tab Hour 2 Activities. After you have watched the tutorials come back to this PowerPoint for your next steps.
Team Brainstorming Session In your grade teams that you created based on the Hour 1 Discussion please brainstorm a list of at least five possibilities for both Yodio.com and Polleverywhere.com. Make sure that the ideas that your team brainstorms could actually be used in your classroom because we will come back to them in Hour 3! Hour 3: Individual Creation of Authentic Assessment
Creating a Cell Phone Friendly Lesson The next two hours of this multimedia workshop have been designed to let you begin creating two cell phone friendly lessons with both Yodio.com and Polleverywhere.com. Use your time to create your lessons while you still have my guided help. If you experience any difficulties or have any questions please skype me at kkhetzel. Hour 5: Sharing Your Creations
Sharing Your Creations On your team pages that you have created on the workshop please share and upload your creations so we can all see how you have used Yodio.com and Polleverywhere.com in your classrooms. This is often the most helpful part of the workshop because this is when we are able to collaborate and share what you have created. You never know, what you created may fit into someone else’s classroom too!
