OUTCOMES Planning has a long & mostly positive history 70s-80s: The Principle of Normalization the same rhythms & patterns of living for people with disabilities as those without  where, what, with whom  from the perspective of the person receiving support

 HMO CMO MCO  M = MANAGEMENT, MANAGED  OUTCOMES is the new word  PEONIES: Personal Experience Outcomes…  familiar and largely supported idea  Wisconsin’s method of auditing ____________________________________  good ideas are as good as those who try to implement them

 Personal Futures Planning  Person Centered Planning  Outcomes Interviews to learn what the person receiving support wants:  where, what, with whom,  with what accommodations or assistive technology

An OUTCOMES Interview to understand a member’s point of view (usually by a social worker or nurse)  Subjects identified by members to address their priorities  12 quality of life outcome areas from the member’s Point of View  Outcomes =/= Services services are ways of achieving outcomes  What before How

1.I decide where and with whom I live. 2.I make decisions regarding my supports and services. 3.I decide how I spend my day. 4.I have relationships with family and friends I care about. 5.I do things that are important to me.

6.I am involved in my community. 7.My life is stable. 8.I am respected and treated fairly. 9.I have privacy. 10. I have the best possible health. 11. I feel safe. 12. I am free from abuse & neglect.

I like my home (my job) (my room mate)  Is this an Outcome or a status report for now?  What reasonable follow-up? I want a new home (new job) (new room mate)  Outcome or a status report for now?  What reasonable follow-up?

I need a new door at my house for $10,000.  Is this an Outcome or one method?  What reasonable follow-up? _____________________________________  What makes a good outcomes interview?  What about people who can not communicate easily?

Behavior Communication   Assertiveness ___________________________________ Even unskillful action has message value  With ease of language what would s/he say?  What is s/he trying to assert?

 What do you see or hear …?  When is it more likely to happen?  What might s/he understand?  What might s/he be experiencing?  What other usable information?  What might s/he be trying to accomplish?  What might s/he need or want more / less?  Point of View (POV)  Desired Outcomes  How could you prepare?
