Reflexive Verbs REFLEXIVE VERBS are used… To describe actions that the subject is performing on or for himself/herself To describe many aspects of one's daily routine NON-REFLEXIVE VERBS are used To describe what the subject is doing to someone/something else To describe all other actions of daily life

REFLEXIVE NON-REFLEXIVE Je me lave les cheveux = I wash my hair Je lave la voiture = I wash the car

REFLEXIVE NON-REFLEXIVE Tu te regardes= You look at yourself Tu regardes la télé= You watch TV

REFLEXIVE NON-REFLEXIVE Il se sèche= He dries himself Il sèche la vaisselle= He dries the dishes.

Don’t use MON, MA, MES etc.! The reflexive verb already indicates that you are doing it to yourself or your body. Je me lave les cheveux = I wash MY hair Il se rase le visage= He shaves HIS face Nous nous brossons les dents = We brush OUR teeth.

Reflexive Verbs and the Future Tense ( Aller + Infinitive ) ALLER+ PRONOUN + INFINITIVE Je vais me coucher = I’m going to go to bed. Nous allons nous lever = We are going to get up Il va se raser = He’s going to shave.

Reflexive Verbs and Negative Statements NE PAS always goes around pronoun and the first conjugated verb!

Je ne me lave pas. = I don’t wash. Je ne vais pas me laver. = I’m not going to wash Je ne me suis pas lavé(e). = I did not wash. Je ne me lavais pas. = I wasn’t washing.
