WALT: Experiment with Watercolours to produce different effects

Wet on dry Wet on wet

Painting on a background Paint a pale wash and let it dry. (Green)

Paint an area Then, using scrunched up tissue paper, take some of the paint away- Don’t press too hard or all the paint will go! You can also use clingfilm.

3. Wet on wet Wet the paper with your brush Then start adding colours and they will blend together quickly

Use different greens whilst the background green is still wet Dot the page as opposed to brushing to show leaves

dry brush- dry brush- put the brush into the paint without soaking it in water. Hold the brush to the paper and flick away.

Painting on a background Now that your background has dried- we can add a darker colour on top. The more you brush along the paint, the stronger the colour will be.

After painting your thin grass lines, Get some paint on your brush and flick against your fingers

Wax resist Draw the white lines with a white crayon or a candle. When you paint over the white lines will show through.

Blending two colours together gradually Start by using long strokes with one colour. Then begin changing the colours as you move down the page, brushing slightly over the last colour.

Discuss as a class: Which techniques did you find easy/ hard? Which are your favourite? Which techniques could you use to create sky, grass, trees etc?
