AS Dance

 To gain the ability to make analytical comments on the dance in terms of:  Character  Qualities  Type and treatment of subject matter  Possible meaning/interpretation  Clarity of choreographic intention

 Describe what you see:  Movement Content – Relationships, Action, Dynamics and Space (RADS)  Dancers – The amount, physique  Set and Costumes – How does this add to the intention/meaning of the dance?  Aural Setting – How is this used? Same structure; is it made for the dance purposefully; mutual co existence; disassociation?

 What is the choreographer’s intention/meaning? What is the piece about?  Is the piece Narrative, Abstract, Pure Dance?  What is the style of the dance?  How has the choreographer achieved this? Think about all constituent features of dance.  Any themes that occur?

 How successful is the piece in achieving this?  Analyse! Just saying, “I like it,” or “I don’t like it!” is not acceptable.

 Title of dance  Choreographer  Date of first performance  Genre/Style  Accompaniment  Dancers/Company  Any specific demands placed on the dancers in performance

 Live performance, recording of live performance, and dance specifically made for film and television are the ways in which dance works are presented to us  Discuss how these different forms of presentations affect the way we understand and appreciate dance works. Provide examples from professional works in your discussion
