The Gifts to the Church Romans 12- The gifts of the Father Ephesians 4- The gifts of Christ I Corinthians 12, 14- The gifts of The Spirit
Romans 12:4-8 4 For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, 5 so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. 6 Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; 7 or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; 8 he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.
Gifts of the Father Gifts of the personality
Prophetic personality Sees everything in black & white Calls the church back to holiness Points out errors Confronts hypocrisy and sin May not appreciate the gift of showing mercy Edifies and builds up the Church
Serving personality “Enjoys” physical responses such as building, cleaning, doing errands, etc. Does not have to be asked to volunteer May think the administrator is lazy Ex: Martha and Mary
Teaching personality Intrigued with details, dates, names, maps Esteems accuracy Impressed with credentials Studies systematically May love the material more than the student Example: Laodicea
Mentoring Personality Another Term Encourager Sees potential in an individual Enjoys seeing the mentoree surpass the mentor Loves character studies and finding examples May experience burn out Example: Barnabas
Giver Usually is a frugal person Desires accountability React negatively to pressure appeal Enjoys knowing that the giving was an answer to prayer May want to give and move on Example: lad with lunch
Administrator Sees the Big picture Enjoys coordinating efforts of many Inspire workers May become proud and distain the common laborer Example: Nehemiah
Show-er of mercy Desires inner healing for the broken-hearted Can sense the emotional mood of someone Has a wonderful ability to listen Reacts to insensitive people May think of the prophet and/or administrator as hard-hearted Example: The Father of the prodigal son
Susie serves dessert Prophetic Mom: I told you so! Serving Sister Pam: Let me get a rag and clean this up! Teaching Uncle Joe: The tray was unbalanced. Mentoring Aunt Alice: Are you ok, Susie? Everyone makes mistakes!
Susie serves dessert Admin Brother Bob, smiling: Next time just take it more slowly! Sure you can do right! Giver Grand dad: Hey, here’s $10. Let’s buy some Vanilla ice cream. Show-er of Mercy Dad: Let’s go watch the football game while we’re waiting!
What would you have done? Nothing? That’s apathy!!! Refusal to use your gift.
Bob runs out of gas Prophetic Adam: I noticed you were not in church this morning. PUT GOD FIRST! Serving Barbara: Let me run you to the filling station! Teaching Carlos: Let’s look at your gas gauge. Giver Debbie: Here’s $20…not a loan! Mentoring Eddie: Bob, we need spiritual fuel… Mercy Fran: Are you OK? Do you want to use my cell phone Admin George: Well, looks like we can go run along now! WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE DONE? (Apathy)
Ephesians 4:8-12 8Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. 9(Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? 10He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.) 11And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

I Corinthians 12: 7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8 To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit,
10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he gives them to each one, just as he determines.
