In the throat, on the thyroid.
PTH (parathyroid hormone)
Regulates calcium levels Not enough calcium, more PTH produced and released Too much calcium, PTH stops being produced
Controls amount of calcium that is in blood, therefore controls bone strength and density
When the calcium concentration falls below the recommended level PTH raises the calcium concentration by decreasing bone deposition and increasing the calcium uptake in the intestine and the kidneys.
PTH is produced and released when calcium levels get low (below 9.0)
If one (or more) of the four parathyroid glands grows into a tumor, it behaves inappropriately by constantly making excess parathyroid hormone, even when unnecessary.
The MIRP Procedure The standard Parathyroid Operation Minimally Invasive Parathyroid Operation
Hyperparathyroidism- Hyperparathyroidism Video Hyperparathyroidism Video Hypoparathyroidism- very rare, too little calcium, occurs when all 4 parathyroid glands stop working
