Parts of a Eukaryotic Cell and Comparison between an Animal and Plant Cell

Cell Theory 1) All living things are made up of cells. 2) Cells are the smallest working units of all living things. 3) Cells come from other cells There are two types of cells: –Prokaryotic –Eukaryotic

Difference Between a Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic Cell ProkaryoticEukaryotic - It has no nucleus- Has a nucleus - It doesn’t have membrane- covered organelles - Has membrane-covered organelles - It has a cell-wall outside the cell membrane - Some (Ex. plants) have cell- walls Is E Coli prokaryotic or eukaryotic? Is Euglena prokaryotic or eukaryotic? Are plants prokaryotic or eukaryotic? Are animals prokaryotic or eukaryotic?

Plant Cell

The Cell Parts or The Organelles

The Cell…The School To better understand the parts of a cell, let us compare each part with a specific role or structure found in a school. Just like in school, there are a lot of different groups that make the school work….So does the cell! In cells, Organelles are the things that make the cell work!

Cell Wall It is the the outer layer of the cell that supports and protects it! In School: It is the wall that surrounds the school

Cell Membrane It controls what goes in or out of the cell. In School: It is the wire fence around the school

Nucleus It is the control center of the cell. It also contains the DNA. In school: It is the office. The DNA is the principal or headmaster.

Ribosomes It is responsible for making Proteins. In school: It is the teacher. And the proteins (by product) are the students.

Endoplasmic Reticulum It is the transport and delivery system. It moves materials around the cell. In School: It is the hallway.

Mitochondria It is generates energy for the cell In school: It is the cafeteria.

Chloroplasts (plant cell) It contains the green chlorophyll which traps the energy from sunlight. In school: it is the solar-powered energy generators

Golgi Complex It packages and delivers materials within and out of the cell In school: It is the faculty workroom where the cubbyholes are located.

Lysosomes It is responsible for cleaning the cell In school: The maintenance staff or JAMAS.

Vacuole It is the storage site for the cell In school: These are the underground water tanks
